What is Namaz or Salaat or Salah?.


Namaz or Salaat is one of the five obligatory pillars of Islam.It is the duty of every practising Muslims to perform and pray 5 times Namaz a day dutifully. 


What is Namaz or salaat or salah

Namaz is a physical activity of praying or act of worship in which they try to close with Allah by submitting will to Allah. The primary purpose of Namaz or Salaat or Salah is to act as a person's communication with Allah.

It is a physical, mental, and spiritual act of worships performed everyday at prescribed timing.

For performing Namaz or Salaat, Muslims faces towards Kibla Kaaba or Mecca direction, where one stands, bows, prostrates oneself and conclude with sitting on the ground.
They reads certain verses, phrases from the quaran, and this repetition and process continues multiple times.


What are the timing of Namaz or Salaat & what are the five prayers called?.


For each Namaz or salaat or salah, there is a prescribed timing and can be offered in Mosque or at a place of physical living and can be offered according to the time mentioned for each prayer.

However, due to any reason or circumstances arises, where one missed the prayer timing then they should make up their missed prayer as soon as possible. Namaz times vary at different location on the earth. It is determined by the position of the sun in the sky.
The various timing of Namaz and what it is called is as below.

1:- Fazr (Down prayer), This prayer is offer before sunrise.

2:- Zohar or Dhuhr (Midday prayer), This prayer is offer after the sun passes its highest.

3:- Ashr (Afternoon prayer), This prayer is offer at the late part of the afternoon.

4:- Maghrib (Sunset prayer), This prayer is offer just after the sunset.

5:- Isha (Night prayer), This prayer is offer between the sunset and midnight.

There are four types of prayer which Muslims need to perform everyday.


What are the types of Namaz or salah

1- Fard.

Its a obligatory prayer, which needs to be perform everyday. If any Muslims leave out the Fard prayer intentionally then it is a sinful act. If it is leave out due to unfavourable condition or due to forgetfulness then it can be prayed as soon as possible after favourable condition

2- Viter Wajib.

This is a necessary prayer and if anyone miss this prayer intentionally, then it is committed a sin.If it is miss out due to unfavorable condition or due to forgetfulness then it is not required to offer later as a qada or kaza prayer.

3- Sunnat.

This is a extra Rakat of prayer offered by the Prophet Mohammad(s.a.w-peace be upon him). Sunnat prayer is considered to be necessary.

4- Nafl.

This is a optional prayer. If a Muslims offer nafl prayer then they reap the benefits of Allah's favour.

What are the pre condition for offering prayer.

There is a well defined condition for every prayer and Namaz too has certain precondition before its going to be performed.


Before going to offer Namaz, one must be cleaned, to make ghusl or bath if necessary. Cleanliness of body and dress is must. One must be in the state of purity.

Cleanliness of place where prayer is to offer. The body must be covered during the prayer.

To make Wadu or ablution.
Facing towards qiblah.

Health benefits of Namaz or Salah prayer.

Namaz is one of the most beloved act of worship of Allah. While offering Namaz, it requires lots of physical activity and position and certain preconditions needs to be filled which has a tremendous benefits in our day to day life. Some of the benefits is highlighted below.

Before offering Namaz, one has to go for wadu or ablution process, in which washing of hands, mouths, nose, face, hands, feet require and in this process aerial parts of body become clean which opens the pores of body and helps in body respiration.



It improves blood circulation, while offering Namaz, during Ruku positions, blood flow is regulated in the upper body parts.

 It improves digestion, helps in liver functions and relaxes the intestine.

Ruku positions of Namaz helps in maintaining the flexibility of our shoulders, elbow, wrist and ankles.

The constant practice of Sajdah helps in maintaining smooth sailing for our brain, lungs, body muscles.

Salam positions of Namaz helps in strengthening of the neck.
